Since its launch in 2014, The Trotter Project continues Chef Charlie Trotter's lifelong commitment to mentorship and education.
The Trotter Project is an educational and programming hub with a vast and dedicated network of chefs, hospitality workers, and institutions. We partner with leading programs such as Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP), City College of Chicago's Washburne Culinary Institute, Kendall College and more, in order to offer comprehensive training for our students.
The Trotter Project, in tandem with these programs, turns kitchens into classrooms and offers students in communities across Chicago the ability to realize their dreams. With the backing of corporate support from our founding corprate sponsor United Airlines, along with generous support from Chef Works, Lenox, The Peninsula Chicago, Samsung, and Woodford Reserve, The Trotter Project has an unparalleled team working to sustain our mission of service.
For an aspiring chef or hospitality management professional, nothing could be more inspirational or helpful than learning from industry greats. The Trotter Project’s Pillars of Excellence Program—ranging from one-on-one to small group mentorship opportunities to paid internships, skills sessions, guest lecturers by seasoned industry pros, and scholarships—allows the next generation of talent to work alongside professional mentors and cultivate both technique and drive. Not only do these memorable, special opportunities allow mentees to see their potential, chart new careers, and expand their possibilities, but the Pillars of Excellence Mentor Program introduces a support network of professionals who can help guide their futures.
The Trotter Project mentors are industry leaders who have been personally taught or influenced by Charlie Trotter. They recognize his impact in their own lives and eagerly contribute to Chef Trotter’s mission to uphold the standards of supreme service, nurture raw passion and new talent, and live a life of giving.
